1. Introduction

1.1 The Company - History

K. S. Gunawardane & Co. (Pvt) Ltd was established in 1999 in order to acquire the business activities of Kelum Steel Furniture, a sole proprietorship established in 1997. Mr. Kelum Gunawardane, an engineer by profession started a small scale steel furniture manufacturing factory at Kekanadura Industrial Estate, Matara, Southern Province of the Country since his carrier objective was to become an Industrialist - Entrepreneur.

Total commitment towards the business and entrepreneurial skills of Mr. Gunawardena resulted in achieving significant growth within one year and as a result business activities were expanded in to another sector in the name of Kelum Distributors in 1998. This was formed to import and distribute Plastic Furniture. During this two year period Kelum Distributors could distribute both steel and plastic furniture successfully in the Southern Region of the country catering approximately 150 successful dealer network and as a result of this sound dealer network and prompt delivery system, Kelum Distributors was appointed as the authorized distributor in southern province for Nilkamal Eswaran Plastic (Pvt) Ltd, the largest manufacturer of molded plastic furniture at that time in the country.

Significant growth in overall business activities insisted a requirement of a corporate entity and as a result Mr. Gunawardena decided to convert his business activities to a limited liability company in the name of K.S.Gunawardena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd in 1999 and also they decided to register their brand name
"EVERO" for their own steel products.


1.2 The Business

At present, the company has two factories at Kekanadura Industrial Estate and Charly Mount Industrial Estate where the business activities of each factory is given below.

•  Manufacturing of Steel Furniture (Both Office & Domestic)
•  Manufacturing of Tube Furniture
•  Manufacturing of MDF Furniture
•  Operation of Main Administrative Office

Factory at Charly Mount Industrial Estate

•  Manufacturing of Polyurethane Foam Items, Cushions and Mattresses including Re Bonding Process
•  Manufacturing of Steel Furniture


Foam Items

From the beginning in 1997 till end 2000, the company's main market for its products was Southern Province. However, with the expansion of production capacities specially with the factory at Charly Mount Industrial Estate, the company started distribute and market its products Island wide by recruiting a new sales team.

In 2001/02, the company withdraw its distribution ship of Nilkamal products since they wanted to fully concentrate on developing its own manufacturing and distribution process. Further to the above business activities, from 2001/02 to 2003/04 the company was engaged in importing and selling of vehicles in addition to its main business activities.
